Coordinate a Farmers Market Event

Your local Farmers Market is a great place to unplug. Going on your own is great or if you are wanting a group activity, you can consider hosting an event at the Market.  Farmers Markets provide a healthy outdoor environment, already have attendees, and lend themselves to a nice partnership as many vendors and farmers understand the value of connecting with nature and healthy foods. See if you can get a free or shared booth space at your local market (they may waive the fee if it is a 1-time event and likely to bring new customers).

Fun ideas to consider for families include: creating a mascot (Rodney Rooster pictured here) and making a scavenger hunt for kids. We also have downloads available for a fresh fruit and veggie scavenger hunt. If you get a booth space, you can have a quick nature craft activity, encourage kids to be “Adventure Tasters”, or let them shop with fake dollars from pre-approved vendors.   Contact claudia@unplugcollaborative.org if you want more info on how to make this happen in your neighborhood.
